If you think that your diet is healthy, you need to think again. Most of the food you eat, may seem healthy at first, but it generally isn’t. This may be surprising, but is actually true.
Here are ten food items which seem healthy at first, but are not:
- Multigrain Breads
- Energy Bars
- Sports Drinks
- Turning Vegetarian
- Reduced-Fat Peanut Butter
- Products that are Fat-Free
- Hand Sanitizer
- Diet Soda
- Extra Light Olive Oil
Bread that’s made with wheat flour is not as bad as white bread. But both are made with enriched flour. These are refined and nutrients are lost due to the refining. Not only do they have less nutritional value, they also tend to increase the blood sugar.
To avoid this, take the bread where the ingredient is “100 percent whole wheat.” These grains help reduce the risk of diabetes and help in maintaining a healthy body weight.
Almost all energy bars are intended for people doing intensive workouts. Some others are intended for replacing meals as well these bars have high calorie content. They have a very high sugar content.
Consume energy bars only when you’re working out and take an option which is rich in protein. Ensure that the calorific value is between 100 and 200 calories. If you are NOT working out these these bars don’t do nothing for you.
If you’re working out and drinking sports drinks, you may have a chance of gaining even more weight. This is because these drinks contain more sugar, which are just calories and not a balance of proteins, carbs and vitamins. What most people don’t realize is that these sports drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade are excessively low in PH rate and normally are between 3.0-3.5 on the PH scale. Keep in mind that most sickness arises when your body goes below a 7.6 PH level.
These sports drinks are designed for the bodies of athletes and you should avoid them if you’re not doing high intensity sports activities.
This may be surprising because eating plant based diets are good for your health. Not only does it keeps the weight low, it also helps in maintaining a healthy diet. However, a newly turned vegetarian mostly relies on a diet which consists of processed food. This can lead to an unnecessary amount of sugar and fat to your diet, which can be a cause for chronic diseases.
Peanut butters are high in calories and fat. So, taking peanut butter which is less in fat seems to be a good idea. However, the reduced-fat peanut butter is made by compensating fat with extra sugar. More sugar can lead to diabetes.
It is better to buy peanut butter with no added sweeteners. However, with a high fat content, you need to control your daily intake of peanut butter.
Most fat-free products seem to be a good idea. Low fat diets are good, but the fat in the product is replaced by an increase in the sodium and sugar content.
While you need to control the fat intake of your body, it’s better to control the type of fat. Saturated and trans fats are the ones that accumulate and increase the weight (found in butter and partially hydrogenated vegetable oils). However, the unsaturated fats help in digestion of vitamins and minerals. Use healthier vegetable oils to overcome this problem.
Hand sanitizers help clean your hands when water and soap are not available. But too much of something can be a problem.
Using too much hand sanitizer can lead to less exposure to germs. Without the exposure, the immune system suffers and you may fall sick with the tiniest bit of contact with others.
Smoothies are considered to be a healthy replacement for a snack. That is not the case for all of them. Some smoothies contain more sugars than fruits, yogurts and skimmed milk.
Fruit smoothies with less sugar are better replacements to a snack. A meal replacement-smoothie should contain at least five grams of both proteins and fibres. Home-made smoothies are the best smoothies to consume, if you’re going to a fast food place to purchase your smoothies more than likely your packing tons of calories and sugars.
Diet soda is still soda and the ingredients are still bad for you. Also, you may be getting lesser calories by using diet soda, but the artificial sweeteners are not good for the body. They can cause weight gain and a wider body. These silent killers are about 2.5 PH level, which if you look at other articles written you’ll see that it can clean a battery! Why in the world would you want to consume something that can clean a battery?
Olive oil is good for health, and can reduce the risk of heart diseases and diabetes. However, the “extra-light” version of this does not have less fat, but is just more refined to be pale and buttery.
The calorie content in both the refined and “extra light” olive oil is the same.
